Raising Food Allergy Awareness
When my oldest daughter was first diagnosed with milk and egg food allergies, I had no idea where to start. I was lost. I felt alone and unsure. At the time, there weren’t very many websites or places to find help.
As I slowly started to make my way, I began to realize that I wasn’t the only one who didn’t know what food allergies meant. I found I had to educate and raise food allergy awareness with everyone in my family and friend group on my own. It was sometimes exhausting and often took awhile for them to truly understand (sometimes years).
Thankfully, there are many more resources and tools out there now, but raising food allergy awareness is still something that every food allergy mom and food allergy family often have to do on their own. It’s because people just aren’t looking for allergy information unless they’re living it. Which means each family is left with the job of educating the people around them. This is why I love food allergy awareness month. It’s the time when the whole food allergy community can raise food allergy awareness together. It’s like the quote that says “A rising tide lifts all boats”!
Podcast Interview to Raise Food Allergy Awareness
As a food allergy leader, I love to raise awareness both during food allergy awareness month AND at other times of the year. I love connecting with other family and mom leaders to share food allergy life. This often means I get to raise food allergy awareness on different podcasts and social media. Today, I’m sharing the most recent podcast interview I did with Kimberly at Build Your Best Family Podcast.
Kimberly and I had a great chat about what us food allergy families wished non-food allergy families knew; how important it is to exclude the food, not the child and how food allergies affect family traditions and celebrations.
