Why traditions like mocktail recipes for kids are important for food allergy families
Family traditions are important for so many reasons! Not only do they add fun, but they create memories and ways to bond together. Traditions are the fabric of your family and help you create your unique culture.
As food allergy families, some of the “usual” traditions like going to the ice cream shop or doughnut shop are out of the question. That’s where this idea comes in! It’s top 9 allergy-friendly and fun, too.
One of our vacation traditions is creating a special allergy-friendly mocktail recipe for every vacation we go on. It’s a fun, allergy-friendly way to bond and share memories of each trip.
If you try this recipe, don’t miss the important step of naming your special mocktail! Naming your creation is super fun and lets your kid’s creativity shine!

Have you ever made mocktail recipes for kids? If not, it’s time to try! Here’s how…
How to make allergy-friendly mocktail recipes for kids
1. Choose 1-2 allergy-friendly fruit juices when you go to your first grocery shop at your destination. If possible, we go for fruit native to the location, but this isn’t necessary. Two different colors of juice are best. Guide your kids in choosing their special juices. This a great way to make grocery shopping fun and keeps the kids engaged while you’re doing this required task at your destination.
2. Optional - choose a mixer pop for some bubbles.
3. Get the kids to experiment with adding more or less of each juice and mixer pop to make their perfect mocktail recipe. (If you’ve got toddlers you can help them with this). You really CAN’T go wrong here so let the kids get creative!
4. Add ice and enjoy the whole time you’re there (optional-add your favorite “mom juice” for the adults).
5. Be sure to name the mocktail as a family original!
Here’s a throwback to the last time we were at Disney World in Orlando. In this pic, the kids made these “Orlando Magic” mocktails and they were the bomb! We’ve also had “Mexican Sunshine’s”, “Phoenix Funs” and many more! We usually add our location in the mocktail name, but it’s not necessary. Let your creativity soar!
